This is the only book ever written about the thin steel "lifeline" that ran 1900 miles from Vancouver through Ashcroft to Atlin, Whitehorse and Dawson City; and tells of the men devoted to their duties, living dangerously and in solitude in remote wilderness cabins, relaying messages, repairing the singing line, far removed from the amenities of civilization.
