Particularly notable is the inclusion of eight photoglyptic plates depicting patients, offering early photographic documentation of mental illness. These images, representing various ?types? of psychiatric conditions, reflect both the scientific ambitions and the ethical complexities of 19th-century asylum medicine. The work also includes practical considerations on the administration of asylums, making it an important resource for understanding both the clinical and institutional history of psychiatry in France. Condition & Binding:Original publisher?s red cloth, blind-stamped with central decorative panel and gilt lettering to spine. Binding shows moderate wear, including rubbing, spotting, and some discoloration, particularly to the spine where fading and staining are visible; minor fraying at extremities. Hinges appear intact. Internally, pages show light to moderate foxing and toning, with noticeable water staining to upper margins. Overall- good.
