This book is an inspiring history of Emanuel United Church of Christ tracing the story from the first Reformed worship service in the area in 1785 up to the recent past. The author takes us on a journey from the founding congregation that established the 'Dutch Meeting House' in 1788, to the construction of a new church in 1913 that would serve the growing congregation well into the 20th century. Through the dedication of its congregation and the leadership of many fine ministers, Emanuel United Church of Christ has endured many challenges and enjoyed many triumphs. The history of the church is examined within the cultural and social context of Lincolnton, North Carolina, and the broader context of the German Reformed denomination in the United States. The book not only chronicles events but provides biographical sketches of some of the ministers who served the congregation during its long history. The story of this church is a testament to the faith and perseverance of its members and its continuing witness to the community of Lincolnton.
