This Bible contains the celebrated illustrations of Gustave Dore. This brilliant artist originally designed the 241 wood engravings for a French Bible in 1843 (but this particular Swedish Bible was published in 1889). Black and brown full leather covers and spine with gold lettering, decorative gilt stamped designs. Front and back boards are deeply engraved with black embossing. Two silver-colored metal clasps. Five slightly raised bands on the spine. Gilt page edges. Beautiful woodcut illustrations throughout. Color plates with tissue-guards. Gothic type font. Page for writing owner's name is blank. Back of book has cardboard pages for photographs. Irregular pagination. Binding is tight. Covers and spine slightly rubbed in places, but their condition is exceptionally good. Metal clasps have some residue. Front hinge is starting. A text block is loosening, but still very much attached. No foxing throughout. A few pages have small tears and chips (quite negligible). Text body is clean and free from underlining, highlighting, or notes. A beautiful nineteenth century Swedish Bible in great condition. The illustrations are stunning. Full refund if not satisfied.…
