Purple cloth; some rubbing and light mottling to boards; sun fading to spine cloth; light discoloration occurs at rear board's margins; gilt stamping upon spine and front board remains bright. Gilt top edge; toned deckle fore-edge; deckle bottom edge. Strong toning and… foxing to endpapers; some mild foxing on several initial and terminal leaves. Interior pages remain fairly clean. A very good- copy and a handsome edition of the classic Latin picaresque novel written sometime between 150-180 A.D. in the standard English translation by William Adlington. Includes six b/w plates including frontispiece which retains a lightly toned tissue guard plus other b/w illustrations or "decorations" amongst text many of which are chapter headpieces.

Gutters have cracked slightly, showing as well on the exterio…r close to head of spine, exposing the webbing beneath. Corners are bumped; edges and corners are worn. Pages are toned. Original price is written in pencil on the front free endpaper. Bits of newspaper are affixed to back free endpaper, at corners. Illustrated with small black-and-white drawings throughout. Signed by Gwendolen Haste, one of the poets anthologized herein, on the front free endpaper, in green ink; signature is dated June 1923. Anthology of the best poetry of 1922. Signed by Author(s).

Brown mark towards upper right hand corner which has a small crease; trifling further mark to upper left of halo. In generally very good condition, suitable for framing. Travels preserved in a loose archival plastic sleeve, sent flat in sturdy cardboard. §Hagreen's woodcuts were printed in tiny numbers (twenty or less), post 1922 - in addition he had ceased to sign his work; hence this example is particularly uncommon.
