This volume, first published in Hebrew to wide acclaim - (it was cited as "the authoritative work on the subject and a model of its kind") seeks to set the record straight. Based on extensive interviews and documented by materials from Spanish and Jewish archives, it offers a full and objective account of the rescue of Jewish refugees from Nazi-occupied countries by the Franco regime." Avni served as head of the Division of Latin America, Spain, and Portugal at the Institute of Contemporary Jewry of the Hebrew University from its establishment in 1967. In the years 1983-95 he was the co-director of the Graduate Jewish Studies Program of the Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City. After his retirement in 1999 he became (in 2000) the academic director of the Central Zionist Archives. He is the author of "Argentina and the Jews: A History of Jewish Migration" and "Emancipation and Jewish Education". Where possible, all books come with dust jacket in a clear protective plastic sleeve, sealed in a ziplock bag, wrapped in bubble wrap, shipped in a box.
