Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Good+. Eighth Edition. First published in 1871, this Eighth Edition from 1886 (this, an 1890 printing) updates earlier versions & adds new material on certain obscure diseases, while omitting a chapter on insanity (for the author was preparing an entirely separate work on this subject). Unusual for the time in that it described alcoholism as a disease rather than a "moral failure." In 956 pages with Index + list of medical journals & a Bibliography of Medical & Hygienic Works in rear, with 112 pen-&-ink illustrations throughout text. Quarto (6.5" x 9.5") has brown cloth over half leather cloth-covered boards, stamped with gilt lettering to spine. Condition Good+: very clean with occasional scattered spots or smudges. Binding strong & straight, hinges secure. Pages significantly tanned, heaviest around edges, unmarked save for a few scattered "x" s in margins in pencil & former owner's information inside front cover: a doctor in Des Moines, IA, dated 1890 in lovely script inside front cover; loose receipt from a local pharmacy inserted. Large dampstain to top outside edges of text block bleeds into upper page margins, rarely touching text. Smaller dampstain to lower edges, restricted to close to center. Extremities are heavily rubbed, with loss to all corners. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, Weekends & holidays ship very next business day.…
