In 1845 he was elected Bishop of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ; in 1847 he was one of three trustees appointed by the church to open Otterbein University [Hanby House bio.]. Leather spine, plain paper over boards. Leaves toned and foxed; binding sound. Paper close to hinge of pages 9-12 creased during printing, splitting the type: text remains legible. Likely lacking front free endpaper, retaining one blank before title. Rear free endpaper attached to pastedown along fore-edge and with a long closed tear. OCLC notes two holdings of a later printing with 78 pages; this one not recorded.
