E Hanley, who alongside his military career also taught football at Northwestern University.This 1942 guide is designed to bring Americaâs fighting marines up to their physical peak before deployment. With clearly laid out illustrations and simple easy to follow text, it lays out the basis of Hanleyâs curricula. The material itself covers Ju Jitsu, defences against unarmed attacks, attacks with knives, batons and rifles with bayonets. It also includes the PT (physical training) regimen and how the combat Ju Jitsu content fits within that programme. Watch out for unique contextual techniques such as the âFoxhole Takedownâ showcase the Ju Jitsu as used against a bayonetting attacker whilst youâre in a trench or foxhole.

Paperback. Condizione: Good +. First edition. Paper cardstock covers with blue titles and illustrations. 1st edition in good condition. Some wear and bending to the cover edges. Age-toning to the covers and text-block edges. Binding is solid, but lacking in tightness. "Property Of" section inside the rear cover is blank. A clean solid copy of this combat guide 95 pages, filled with black and white photos and illustrative drawings.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st. First printing. Pp. xxiii, 462, frontis plate with tissue guard (view of Seoul), 21 illustrations, 26 plates and maps, plus folding color map at rear, bibliography, original blue cloth over beveled boards, with attractive gilt decorations and spine titles. A very attractive copy with no serious flaws. Hinges are intact and firm, cloth and gilt bright and not significantly faded, slight wear to fore-tips, not really worn through, short pull-tears to spine-ends, with slight loss to cloth at head of spine (under 1/4"). Internally there is no owner's name or other markings to text, except for a tiny "#31" to the top corner of the title page. There is no loss or significant wear to the large rear folding map except for a large tear near where it is bound in. A superb copy overall. Quite scarce to find one in this condition since most are ex-library and heavily read.

There are two versions of this book, one dated 1942 with 95 pp. and the other dated 1943 with 159 pp. They have quite different illustrations etc., this latter one has more indepth techniques and illustrations and appears to be much more "home-made". This version is considerably scarcer.
