Soft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. Hans Tisdall (illustratore). 1st Edition. 20 pages stapled into card wrappers with illustrations front and back by Hans Tisdall. This is one of the cute little booklets privately printed by Cape for distribution as a Christmas "keepsake" to friends and supporters of the publishing house. It comprises seven short literary conversations, uncredited but almost certainly penned by Daniel George, Cape's reader and the editor of the in-house journal "Now & Then", from where these sketches are taken. Slight browning and rubbing to wrappers, staples a little rusty, but otherwise a near fine copy.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. Jacket by Duncan Spilling, lettering by Stephen Raw after Hans Tisdall (illustratore). 1st Edition. First edition, first impression. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, WITHOUT DEDICATION, IN BLACK PEN, ON TITLE PAGE. Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners very slightly rubbed, not price clipped (£16.99), no other inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy, looks unread. 473pp. Moving back through the 1940s, through air raids, blacked out streets, illicit liaisons, sexual adventure, to end with its beginning in 1941, 'The Night Watch' is the work of a truly brilliant and compelling storyteller. This is the story of four Londoners, three women and a young man with a past, drawn with absolute truth and intimacy. Kay, who drove an ambulance during the war and lived life at full throttle, now dresses in mannish clothes and wanders the streets with a restless hunger, searching. Helen, clever, sweet, much loved, harbours a painful secret. Viv, glamour girl, is stubbornly, even foolishly loyal, to her soldier lover Duncan, an apparent innocent, has had his own demons to fight during the war. Their lives, and their secrets connect in sometimes startling ways. War leads to strange alliances. Signed by Author(s).
