Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Artists and theorists explore the fraught relationship between art and ecologyThe Verbier Art Summit is an annual weekend-long conference in Verbier, Switzerland, which began in 2017 with the objective of using art in a non-transactional context to effect social change. This is the fourth in the Summit publication series, following this year's theme "Resource Hungry," which has inspired proposals about the catastrophic effects of climate change, our changing relationship to the natural environment and considerations about material sustainability within the art world. Resource Hungry presents key insights of the 2020 Verbier Art Summit and extends a global dialogue to find harmony between art, ecology and resources. The book is edited by curators Jessica Morgan (director of Dia Art Foundation), and Dorothea von Hantelmann (author of How to Do Things with Art, 2010).Artists include: Jennifer Allora & Guillermo Calzadilla, Andrea Bowers, Elvira Dyangani Ose, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Joan Jonas, Stefan Kaegi, Philippe Rahm and Lucy Raven. The Verbier Art Summit is an international platform for discourse in a non-transactional context. This is the fourth in the Summit publication series, disseminating key insights of the 2020 Summit and extending a global dialogue to find harmony between art, ecology and resources. Hardcover. Condizione: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 336 pp, illustrations - A seminal exhibition by the artist Daniel Buren at the Centre Pompidou in Paris is recreated through photographs of the since-destroyed pieces and illuminating reflections by the exhibition s curator. Since the late 1960s Daniel Buren has been challenging the traditional methods of presenting art through museums and galleries. Through his conceptual works Buren audaciously argues that the art and its viewing environment are both inextricable and antithetical. This beautiful volume takes readers on a tour of a spectacular exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The photographs depict Buren s employment of the museum as a whole. The pieces, which he destroyed immediately after the exhibition closed, included hundreds of open cubes, mirrors, banners, and even a car park. Also featured are fascinating, behind-the-scenes accounts of the installation by the curator, Buren s own pre-exhibition sketches, ideas, andfloor plans, and perceptive essays that capture the significance of Buren s daring achievement.…

Softcover. Condizione: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 88 pages with 37 color illustrations - Jeff Koons' Popeye series, begun in 2002, incorporates some of the artist's signature themes and motifs: the surrealistic combination of everyday objects, cartoon imagery, outsized scale, art-historical references and children's toys. The sculptures reproduced here continue Koons' fondness for casting inflatable toys in aluminum carefully painted to resemble supple plastic which he juxtaposes here with unaltered everyday objects, such as chairs or garbage cans. The Popeye paintings are complex and layered compositions that combine disparate images both found and created by Koons (including images of the sculptures in the series). The instantly recognizable figures of Popeye and Olive Oyl are central, and recur across several key works within the book. Frederic Tuten, Arthur C. Danto and Dorothea von Hantelmann provide commentary on this fun body of work, which Koons discusses in a conversation with Julia Peyton-Jones and Hans Ulrich Obrist.…

Hardcover. Condizione: Sehr gut. Condizione sovraccoperta: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 200 Seiten/pages, illustrated throughout. - Philippe Parreno rose to prominence in the 1990s among a group of artists later gathered under the rubric of Relational Aesthetics. Parreno has sought to redefine the exhibition experience as a coherent object rather than a collection of individual works. In this spirit, his recent exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery constitutes an environment through which the visitor is guided by an orchestration of sound and image. This catalogue for the exhibition examines Parreno s films, including Invisibleboy (2010), the tale of a Chinese immigrant boy who sees imaginary monsters that are scratched onto the film stock; June 8, 1968 (2009) which revisits the train voyage that transported the corpse of Robert Kennedy from New York to Washington D.C.; and The Boy from Mars (2003), which partly focuses on the generator that supplies the power required to make the film.…
