Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is a collection of famous Latin speeches penned by Marcus Tullius Cicero, who is considered the greatest Roman orator of all time. As it was delivered in 63 B.C.E., this first speech sets the stage for an epic and dangerous struggle between an audacious senator named Catiline and the steadfast Roman Consul, Cicero. Cicero powerfully interrogates Catiline about his conspiracy to overthrow the government and the established democratic order. Informed of the conspiracy by a personal ally of the corrupt Senator, Cicero resolves to publicly shame Catiline and demands to know how long he'll exploit the patience of the Senate. Cicero questions why Catiline isn't concerned by the obvious signs of his guilt, including the visibly heightened security in Rome, the fear of the public, and the general consensus of the Senate. By making the speech, Cicero leads the Senate in denouncing Catiline and rendering him an outlaw. The speech itself offers insight into the political landscape and social turmoil of the late Roman Republic and how they are reflected in the bold oratory of one of the greatest Western thinkers. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
