Illustrated, embossed green linen boards/Fine. DJ/NF, under mylar. A delightful tale of an elephant hunt in Vermont, on the grounds near where India born British poet, novelist & short story writer Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936), youngest of all awarded the Pulitzer Prize, whose books for children are classics, made his home after marriage to Brattleboro woman, Carrier Balestiere, and, from where he wrote The Jungle Book --- to where author Margaret Glover Otto frequented with her husband from their home in Connecticut. Kipling wrote of, and, knew elephants well. Otto sets this animal detective story in 1895 Brattleboro with Kipling as a protagonist, along w/animals of the fields, and, young Tim Evans who bonded with Kipling through the JUNGLE BOOKS! 106 pgs, enhanced with ink drawings from Harold Berson (1926 - 1986), dedicated to illustrating children's books, and, portraits of Kipling! Written for children, a tribute to Kipling from a contemporary author & an artist, both one with Kipling's philosophical understanding that to be fully human is to understand needs of all life living on earth.
