Measures 6 x 7.5 inches. Early owner's name in period ink on title page; Fine, clean condition. [22-243] The Preface states, in part, "When the first series of sixty-four games was issued, it was supposed to fulfill all the requirements of the most ardent votaries of Solitaire; but it appears to have created a demand for "fresh fields and pastures new," to satisfy the desire for still greater varieties. From the Preface of an 1884 edition: "There is a charm and solace about Solitaire which is beginning to be more generally and deservedly appreciated.
