Long before global warming, in another century, in a land bordered by the Old Orchard there lived `Whitefoot the Wood Mouse' and `Happy Jack' the Gray Squirrel and a myriad of their animal friends. Shadow the Weasel and Farmer Brown's boy play roles in both these stories. 204 pages and 181 pages. Both tight in binding. LEARN too about Miss Dainty, Bowser , Buster, and Sammy Jay. Each volume illus. by 4 b/w plates. Cond : Boards are blue with black lettering. End-papers are pictorial in green and white. `Jack ' has a yellow d.j. and `Whitefoot a purple one . The former is VG with a piece missing at the spine tail, the latter is fair with the entire front flap gone. Neither volume has names, marks, creass, nor tears. Jack has a soiled page pair at p,.180. One each - folded page corners. Still very collectible !! Dates say 1918 and 1922 but I think the fifities is much closer. Minor soiling - esp. to Whitefoot. Quote (p. 83 of `Jack') : " Happy Jack made up his mind , and with a little gasp raced madly across the snow straight to Farmer Brown's boy and ran right up to his shoulder. Shadow the Weasel had been so intent on catching Happy Jack that he hadn't noticed . ." Size: 12mo.
