A fabulous quality vintage set of the usual 13 of the 14 volumes (excluding the Chumash) bound in blue leather with gilt titling, gilt inner dentelles (turn-ins), all edges gilt, and marbled end-papers in matching slip-cases. No markings, names, nor inscriptions but with initials L.W. in gilt to front cover of each. Internal condition of each is such that they look as if they have never been used. 8 x 5.5 inch. Most are second impressions of the First Edition with printing dates in the 1950s. There is a bit of fade to the spines which will have been exposed to light compared with the rest of the covers in brighter blue shielded in their slipcases, some very occasional rubbing of the dye on the spines reveals the natural leather colour. The set weighs over 6kg and additional postage may be requested for shipment to some overseas countries. The set requires 11 inches of shelf space. Arter was a social and cultural researcher and former director of field studies for the Center for Human Relations Studies at New York University. She created and administered projects serving women and girls for the National Board of the Y.W.C.A. and the National Council of Negro Women.
