Royal octavo (10 3/4" x 7 1/4") to Swedish chess problemist and editor Frithiof Lindgren (1897-1957) Jan Hartong was a Dutch chess composer and International Master. Hartong is a revered giant of chess composition. Dr Niemeijer wrote an interesting book comparing Hartong with Lev Loshinsky: "Twee zielen Twee gedachten" (1959) as well as a monograph dedicated to Jan Hartong in the "Probleemcomponisten" series (no.IV, 1946). Hartong also participated to the 1923 Margate congress. Fritjof (or Frithiof) Lindgren (1897-1957) composed more than 600 problems, most of them three-movers and many excellent miniatures. He also wrote some books about chess composition: "Schackkuriosa", "Moderna svenska schackproblem" (1936) and "33 Schackminiatyrer" (1937). He was International Judge of the FIDE for chess compositions since 1956. He was the father of GM Bo Lindgren (1927-2011). Letter discusses non payment of awards in tourneys. Letter is in English and in his calligraphic hand. Condition: A slight tear at fold, else a very good copy. Signed by Author(s). …
