Soft cover. Condizione: Good. This is the September - October 1940 issue of "The American Rose Magazine" (Vol. III, No. 11), published by the American Rose Society in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The editors were J. Horace McFarland and R. Marion Hatton. Even the Old Rose Fellowship was not immune to the overwrought pull of politics. Even though there is nothing within the magazine that is political, the front cover states what was all American minds in the months leading to the impending election. Although America had not yet entered the war that was unfolding across the oceans, people were preparing, at least mentally. Said J. Horace McFarland, editor of the magazine, through rosy-colored glasses : "The presidential campaign is the live political disturbance of the time. But either, neither, or both need to interfere with a great majority for the Rose - a majority made by more planting than ever. We hear from 'all over' and always that wars are not fought with roses. Right in the fighting lands roses are growing; they help heal war wounds. In fortunate America you can help as you plant roses. Send us a new member to improve America's war defenses. We are stronger for all roses as there are more of us." ***************************************** CONTENTS (some are quite brief): -- Letters / Program of the Annual Meeting, Skirvin Hotel, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma / Black-Spot and its Control / Vitamin B-1 in Atlanta / The Old Rose Fellowship / Maréchal Niel / Winter Cover Crops for Rose-Beds in the South / Roses versus Tobacco / Obituary for David Montgomery Dunning of Auburn NY / Obituary for Miss Izanna L. chamberlain of Des Moines , Iowa / Obituary for N. These early experiences instilled the passion for horticultural beauty and the business expertise that distinguished him personally and professionally. He eventually purchased his father's press. Combining the skills learned from these early experiences, he established a successful printing company of his own. He founded the J.
