Thomas Larkin was the United States' first (and last consul) to California at Monterey from 1844 to 1848, a critical period in California history. These letters between Larkin and his vice-consul in San Francisco, William A. Leidesdorff and Abel Stearns, prominent American trader in Los Angeles, range from 1831 to 1856 with a particular focus on the years of his consulship. (Rocq 5730). Three short closed tears; slight darkening to dust jacket edges otherwise book is in fine condition.
