Original quarter leather binding - brown leather spine and gray paper over cardstock boards. Spine chipped at head with scuffing lengthwise; library shelf number handwritten in white ink near spine heel; board paper heavily rubbed and soiled with surface losses/peeling along boards' worn edges with strongest wear occurring at corners; front joint split with bottom 4.5cm keep board tenuously attached; lesser splitting at top of rear joint leaving rear board slightly pliable but still reasonably firm. First leaf present is title/copyright (pages i-ii) so missing front free endpaper and perhaps a flyleaf; title leaf also has shallow loss and creasing along it top margin; creasing at bottom margin of rear free endpaper; other creasing and/or edge-wear mostly at page corners; ownership signature in antiquarian ink on rear pastedown; varied toning and foxing throughout; old magenta cloth slip laid-in as bookmark between pages 20-21 causing some resulting toning; yellow paper slip text advertisement for New York's India Rubber Comb Co. circa 1860 laid-in between pages 106-107. Library bookplate affixed to front pastedown; library ink stamps and pencil notations on pages ii-iii; ink stamps on page 51 too; no other library markings readily apparent upon a quick perusal.
