This volume of the Council Acts covers a time of political and religious strife, including the withdrawal of the city charter by James II in 1688, when Oxford was governed by nominees of the king rather than its own mayor and council. The period also saw continuing quarrels between city and university, and an increase in amenities, reflected in the Acts by mention of trades such as coachmakers, coffeemen and periwig-makers. Appendices include the Window Tax lists for 1696. Indexed. No jacket. Off-mint and American-cut pages on lower edge.

Oseney Abbey, Oxford, was founded by Robert d'Oilli in 1129; its cartulary was begun around 1196 but soon attained, in the words of Rev Salter, 'a state of confusion hard to describe'. This first volume of the Cartulary covers the charters of properties in the parishes of St Michael at North Gate, St Mildred, St Mary, St Peter in the East, St John, St Edward, and All Saints. The texts, in Latin and occasionally English, are accompanied by explanatory notes and a general introduction. No jacket. Off-mint.

The book has a preface dealing with the history of Oxford, especially during the years of the Civil War, and the appendices include extracts from the annual accounts of the Chamberlain and Key Keepers, and the town clerk's notebook. Indexed. No jacket. Off-mint. .

At some point before 1086, it was founded for the second time by the bishop of Lincoln and recorded in Domesday as holding one church and thirteen houses, of which eight were in ruins. The earliest cartulary dates from around 1196 and continues to the late 14th century. It is transcribed here with a general introduction, footnotes and appendices on the Chesney family, Smoke-farthings, and visitations. No jacket. Slightly off-mint. American cut with some uncut pages.

Appendices include extracts from the city's annual accounts. Indexed. No jacket. Off-mint.
