Heartman (1883-1953) was an intriguing bibliophile who started bookstores in New York and New Jersey before relocating to New Orleans in 1935 and to Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1936 where his failed effort in establishing an utopian community evolved to become "The Book Farm," a publishing, research, and bookselling operation. Heartman shifted The Book Farm to Biloxi in 1945 and then to New Braunfels, Texas from 1947 to 1951 where after he returned to New Orleans to start The Southern Library Service which only operated briefly before his death in 1953. Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book, an exhaustive compendium of historical documents, comprehensively explores the evolution of the preeminent educational tool of colonial America, the New England Primer. It spans the period from the primer's first known edition in 1727 to its widespread use in the early 1800s. Through meticulous research, the author assembles over three hundred editions of the primer, each an artifact offering glimpses into the beliefs, values, and pedagogical methods of its time. This book is not only a valuable resource for scholars of early American history and education but also a fascinating testament to the power of the written word in shaping young minds. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
