Ein rapider Anstieg des internationalen Frauenha…ndels ergab sich nach dem Zusammenbruch der Sowjetunion. Die vorliegende Studie untersucht am Beispiel der Republik Usbekistan den Zusammenhang zwischen der Transformation und dem Anstieg des Frauenhandels.In ihren empirischen Teilen ist die Studie das Ergebnis einer im Jahr 2004 absolvierten Feldforschung. Anhand des Vergleichs der Lebenssituationen von Frauen vor und nach der Transformation zeigt sie die Einschränkungen und Diskriminierungen, die usbekische Frauen seit der Transformation im wirtschaftlichen, politischen und gesellschaftlichen Bereich erleben. Diese Analyse wird mit der Beschreibung des Frauenhandels in Usbekistan verbunden, die auf 29 Experteninterviews basiert. Als Hauptgründe des usbekischen Frauenhandels kristallisieren sich desolate Familienverhältnisse, wirtschaftliche Not, und unzureichende Informationen über legale Kanäle der Migration heraus.
