Helbach (1568-1638), Pfarrer in Wickenrodt, beschreibt in dieser Schrift verschiedene Zubereitungsweisen zur Öl- und Salzherstellung, die zu Beginn des 17. Jahrhunderts tradiert waren. Dabei steht die Bereitung wirkmächtiger Medikamente gleichberechtigt neben den rein alchemistischen Aufbereitungen. Beschrieben wurde neben Herstellung und Verwendung von Arzneimitteln aus Fetten und etherischen Ölen auch z. B. die technische Herstellung des Vitriolöls (rauchende Schwefelsäure) durch Glühen von Eisenvitriol. Die Kunst, alle Dinge in der Natur, insbesondere aber die Metalle, in Öl und Salz zu verkehren, ist eines der grossen und zentralen Mysterien der Alchemie. - Fergusson I, 373.
