Where the book weighs more than 1 Kilo increased charges will be quoted. Absalom and Achitophel is a celebrated satirical poem written in heroic couplets by John Dryden and first published in 1681. The poem tells the Biblical tale of the rebellion of Absalom against King David, but that tale is an allegory used to represent a story contemporary to Dryden, a story of Charles II and the Exclusion Crisis (1679-1681). The poem also references the Popish Plot (1678) and the Monmouth Rebellion (1685). Ref EE7.

A striking pre-First World War issue of Vogue, featuring one of Helen Dryden's most recognizable Art Nouveau-influenced covers: a fashionable woman draped in…a flowing white gown and vivid yellow stole against a deep blue ground scattered with stylized fruit motifs. Dryden's elegant cover designs helped define the visual identity of Vogue during the 1910's and are among the most sought-after examples of early American fashion illustration. This issue was published during the formative years of modern fashion journalism, shortly after the magazine's acquisition by Conde Nast. Contains contemporary fashion reports, society news, advertising, and illustrations that provide a vivid record of American style and culture on the eve of World War I. Condition: Front and rear covers present and generally bright with strong color retention. Moderate edge wear, small chips and short closed tears, with loss at head of spine. Minor soiling to cover. Interior clean, however, pages 83, 101, 129, and 147 are partially "clipped." Overall, a very good copy of a fragile survival that is extremely scarce on the market. Helen Dryden (illustratore).

Furthermore, inside each color sheet is a discussion of the colors used, and the colors and weights of papers available from Strathmore. Hardcover book with envelope of supplemental sheets. First edition of this nicely illustrated Studebaker dealer's salesman manual detailing the very successful 1938 Studebaker models, which featured the first full line-up of the streamlined designs of Helen Dryden, in consultation with the equally famous contemporary industrial designer, Raymond Loewy, who began his contract with Studebaker in 1936. The 1938 Studebaker lines featured the State Commander, President, & Commander lines, revamped by Loewy and Dryden with shrouded lantern-style headlamps called cathedral headlights, modernizing of the Studebaker logo on the front cover, and even though the US economy had backslid into a mild recession, the 1938 sales year saw Studebaker climb up to 10th in new-car sales. Dryden (1883-1972) was an acclaimed woman artist earning over $ 100,000 a year in the 1930's when her designs first appeared with Studebaker. Dryden continued to work with Loewy at Studebaker until 1940, when she mysteriously drops from the public eye, only to make a short appearance in a series of 1956 New York times articles on her dispute with the Welfare Department. The 1940 Studebaker lines featured the President & Commander lines. The 1940 Studebaker models included 4-door sedans, 2-door coupes, and 2-door Club Sedans fitted with dual sidemounted spare tires. They came stock with cigar lighters, clock, and dual horns, and ran on a 122 in. wheelbase. This manual includes tips for the Studebaker salesmen on performance, comfort, safety, dependability, and fuel economy. In addition, there is a well-illustrated section on 1940 Studebaker commercial cars. Dryden (1883-1972) was an acclaimed woman artist earning over $ 100,000 a year in the 1930's when her designs first appeared with Studebaker.
