23, [1] pp. Disbound, else Very Good. Dr. Conkling was an early settler of Bloomington, Illinois. He arrived there in 1838. He urged Lincoln's re-election with "Pro-Republican arguments.Conkling also defended the use of Negro troops" [Nevins]. Conkling's Preface warns the reader to "see that you do not give your suffrage to that party who will pander to the Slave Oligarch, whose object is to sever in twain this once prosperous but now distracted country, making slavery the corner-stone thereof." He places McClellan Democrats in the same category as "Rebel Sympathizers and Traitors." The pamphlet was also printed in Chicago; according, at least, to OCLC, this Cincinnati printing is by far the scarcer. The last page lists the officers, committee members, and meeting dates of the National Union Association of Ohio, headquartered in Cincinnati. II Nevins 108. OCLC 747505984 [2- VA Tech, U IL] [as of July 2015]. Sabin 15626. Not in Monaghan, Miles, Decker, Eberstadt.
