Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. First Edition. The "Case Against Adolf Eichmann" chronicles his capture in 1960 and subsequent trial in Jerusalem in 1961. Eichmann had fled Europe after WWII, living under the alias Ricardo Klement in Buenos Aires. On May 11, 1960, Israeli Mossad agents abducted him from Argentina and smuggled him to Israel. Officially titled: Criminal Case 40/61, the trial began in April 1961 at Beit Ha'am in Jerusalem. Eichmann sat inside a bulletproof glass booth throughout proceedings. He faced 15 counts, including crimes against humanity, war crimes, and membership in criminal organizations (SS, Gestapo). On December 11-12, 1961, Eichmann was found guilty on most counts. On December 15, he was sentenced to death. Eichmann was hanged on June 1, 1962, the only civil execution ever carried out in Israel. Legal Significance: Set the Universality of Jurisdiction: Israel asserted the right to try Eichmann under the principle that crimes against humanity can be prosecuted anywhere. Precedent in International Law: The trial reinforced the idea that individuals - not just states - can be held accountable for atrocities. Survivor Testimonies: The trial was groundbreaking in centering Holocaust survivors' voices, making their experiences part of the historical record. Cultural and Historical Impact included: Global Media Coverage: The trial was televised worldwide, shaping public understanding of the Holocaust. Educational Legacy: The trial remains a cornerstone in Holocaust education, emphasizing accountability and remembrance.
