Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. First. Edward Dicey,CB (1832 -1911) was an English writer, journalist, and editor. This book is the edited version of his 1863 Six Months in the Federal States, the product of his tour of America during the early part of the Civil War. It was noteworthy in that although objective overall, he tended to sympathize with the Union side, while many of his British contemporaries were more sympathetic to the Confederacy. It also includes his fascinating observations of Abraham Lincoln, whom he met and with whom he spent several hours in conversation. This copy is near fine in beige cloth with brown titles on the spine. Just very slight wear. The clipped DJ is also near fine with just a few tiny chips and tears. An excellent copy overall.

Soft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. First Edition, First Printing. BRAND NEW Copy. A journalistic biography of the life & times of Abraham Lincoln drawn from contemporary newspaper/magazine coverage of the Union, the Confederacy, and Europe. Journalistically speaking, it was an era of free-swinging 'reporting' and marked by extreme partisanship. The emerging portrait of the 16th President is accordingly highly complex & affords considerable insight into concerns & perspectives of the era. This volume is part of the trilogy "The Journalist's Lincoln", edited by Herbert Mitgang; the complementary books are: Washington, D.C., in Lincoln's Time by Noah Brooks, and, Spectator of America by Edward Dicey. 519 pgs in 10 chapters: 1, The Young Lincoln (1832-Aug 1846); 2, Congressman Lincoln (1846-1854); 3, The Great Debater (1854-1858); 4, A National Man (1858-1860); 5, Lincoln for President (1860-1861); 6, President at War (1861-1862); 7, The Emancipator (1862-1863); 8, Commander in Chief (1863-1864); 9, The Second Term (1864-1865); and 10, As They Saw Him (April 1865-May, 1865).
Condizione: Very Good. Very Good condition. Acceptable dust jacket. (American Poets, Biographers, Personal Correspondence) A copy that may have a few cosmetic defects. May also contain light spine creasing or a few markings such as an owner's name, short gifter's inscription or light stamp.
