Niles' Weekly Regi…ster was a periodical that published political, historical, geographical, scientific, statistical, economic, and biographical documents, essays, and facts. Niles' Weekly Register was edited by Hezekiah Niles and later by William Ogden Niles. Niles' Weekly Register was published in Baltimore from 1811 to 1837, and it continued as the American Register and International Journal after 1849. The book is in good condition for a book of its age.

Bound by James Wilson, of Market street, Wilmington, De. Early signature of Isaac Pyle (of Chester County, Pennsylvania, and later of Harford County, MD 1755-1848). The books were in the Pyle family until 1939. Contains vols: 1-9 (1811-16), 2 copies of v.9; and v.11-12 (1818-1819). Each volume includes an index and deals with the political, economic and military topics in America and abroad during the war of 1812 and early federal period. The volumes deal heavily with relations with Britain, France and the conduct of the war. The battle of Baltimore (of Francis Scott Key fame) and the capture of Washington are chronicled. Other topics of interest include Westward expansion and various Indian treaties and border settlements. Niles edited and published the Weekly Register from 1811-1836, making it into one of the most widely-read magazines in the United States and himself into one of the most influential journalists of his day. Devoted primarily to politics, Niles' Weekly Register is considered an important source for the history of the period.
