Of interest as Stanford Newel's copy with his bookplate and signature. Half leather, marbled boards, outer front hinge cracked and board loos…e, worn at head and heel, leather labels missing on spine. Stanford Newel (1839 ? 1907) was an American attorney. Born in Providence Rhode Island, when he was 16, his family moved to St. Anthony, Minnesota. He was a resident of Minnesota for the rest of his life. Graduated from Yale University in 1861 and Harvard Law School in 1864, Newel practiced law in St. Paul before serving as United States Ambassador to the Netherlands and Luxembourg. The historic family mansion was destroyed by fire in 2017. Ships from Dinkytown in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
