Olive paper over boards printed with a facsimile of a broadside, red cloth spine stamped in black and gilt. Signed on colophon by Whitehill.Top edges spotted, o/w a nice copy in matching, slightly scuffed box. Colophon reads: "Th…e Genial Showman has been printed for Imprint Society in an edition of 1950 copies. Klaus Gemming of New Haven, Connecticut, designed the book, using Thorne Shaded, Thorowgood Italic and Monotype Scotch Roman types. Composition and printing from the metal were executed by The Lakeside Press, R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company, in Chicago and the work was bound by them in Crawfordsville, Indiana. The watermarked wove paper, Imprint Society Text, was specially manufactured for this book by Monadnock Paper Mills in Bennington, New Hampshire. The illustrations, wood and steel engravings dating from 1860 to 1870, are taken from originals in The Boston Athenaeum, while the handbills on the covers and slipcase and in the text are reproducted from originals in the American Antiquarian Society, Worcester, Massachusetts. This is copy number 903 (signed) Walter Muir Whitehill". Illustrated (illustratore).
