Interior is clean and bright with unmarked text, free of inscriptions and stamps, firmly bound. Dust jacket with fraying to edges, a small area of damage on the spine. -- This monograph is a pioneering work that documents the early integration of computer science and organic chemistry. The book focuses on how "expert systems" can automate two of the most complex tasks in the lab: identifying unknown molecules and predicting chemical transformations. Core Subjects and Computational Focus: The book explores the application of early AI - specifically heuristic programming and knowledge-based systems - to solve problems that traditionally required human intuition and years of experience. Computer-Aided Structure Elucidation (CASE): A significant portion of the text is dedicated to systems that interpret instrumental data (such as NMR, IR, and Mass Spectrometry) to "deduce" the chemical structure of an unknown compound. Simulation of Organic Reactions: Hippe examines algorithms designed to simulate chemical reactions. This includes retrosynthetic analysis, where the computer works backward from a target molecule to identify the necessary starting materials and reaction steps. The SEAC Project: The book highlights the author's own significant contribution, the SEAC system (Structure Elucidation System), detailing its architecture, logic, and ability to handle "fuzzy" or incomplete chemical data. The text is organized to guide the reader from the logic of AI to its chemical execution: - Knowledge Representation: How to translate complex chemical rules and "molecular graphs" into a language a computer can process; - Search Strategies: Methods for navigating the "combinatorial explosion" of possible chemical structures and reaction paths; - Learning and Refinement: Early concepts of how chemical software can "learn" from successful or failed simulations to improve future accuracy. Historical Significance: While published in 1991, Hippe's work is highly regarded as a foundation for modern Cheminformatics. At a time when computational chemistry was in its infancy, this book advocated for a "synergy" between the chemist and the computer, a concept that has evolved into the sophisticated AI-driven drug discovery and synthesis planning tools used today.

Zustand: Sehr gut | Seiten: 516 | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | This volume of the book contains a collection of chapters selected from the papers which originally (in shortened form) have been presented at the 3rd International Conference on Human-Systems Interaction held in Rzeszow, Poland, in 2010. The chapters are divided into five sections concerning: IV. Environment monitoring and robotic systems, V. Diagnostic systems, VI. Educational Systems, and VII. General Problems. The novel concepts and realizations of humanoid robots, talking robots and orthopedic surgical robots, as well as those of direct brain-computer interface are examples of particularly interesting topics presented in Sec. VI. In Sec. V the problems of skin cancer recognition, colonoscopy diagnosis, and brain strokes diagnosis as well as more general problems of ontology design for medical diagnostic knowledge are presented. Example of an industrial diagnostic system and a concept of new algorithm for edges detection in computer-analyzed images are also presented in this Section. Among the educational systems, in Sec. VII the remote teaching and testing methods in higher education, a neurophysiological approach to aiding the learning process, an entrepreneurship education system and a magnetic levitation laboratory systems are presented. Sec. VII contains papers devoted to selected general human-computer systems interaction problems. Among them the problems of rules formulation for automatic reasoning, creation of ontologies, Boolean recommenders in decision systems and languages for proteins structural similarity description can be mentioned. The chapters included into both, I and II volumes of the book illustrate a large variety of problems arising and methods used in the rapidly developing Human-System Interaction research domain.

Users expect system which is not only a passive tool in human hands but rather an active partner equipped with a sort of artificial intelligence, having access to large information resources, being able to adapt its behavior to the human requirements and to collaborate with the human users. This book collects examples of recent human-computer system solutions. The content of the book is divided into three parts. Part I is devoted to detection, recognition and reasoning in different circumstances and applications. Problems associated with data modeling, acquisition and mining are presented by papers collected in part II and part III is devoted to Optimization.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book presents a fascinating, state-of-the-art collection of papers on the recent advances in human-computer systems interaction (H-CSI). It offers a detailed description of the status quo in the H-CSI field and also provides a solid base for further development and research in the area. The content is divided into three parts: I. Aid systems for disabled people; II. Decision-making support systems; and III. Information and communication systems. It is intended for a wide audience of readers who are not necessarily experts in computer science, machine learning or knowledge engineering, but are interested in human-computer systems interaction, and the combination of general and specific papers offers readers deeper insights than might be gleaned from research papers or talks at conferences. It touches on all the current hot topics in the field of H-CSI.
