After leaving school in 1995, she was awarded the Nobuyoshi Araki Prize and the New Cosmos of Photography Prize, sponsored by Canon, with her book entitled School Days containing a series of colour prints captured with an automatic compact camera. The book covers a cult trend in Tokyo the trading of photographic self-portraits. It is a new way of communicating among young Japanese women. Their nickname is kubi kara camera zoku (the crowd with a camera around their neck). Their spokeswoman is Hiromix, the spiritual daughter of Nobuyoshi Araki, who knows that her youth will not last forever; she therefore pins it down through her camera lens.
