Svein Bolling (1948- ) has since the middle of the 70s established himself as a central painter in the Norwegian art community. Prins Eugen, the youngest son of King Oscar II, was one of SwedenÆs finest landscape painters. Frits Thaulow and Erik Werenskiold were Norwegian turn of the century painters. Frits Thaulow was an impressionist painter who is known for his beautiful landscapes and his realistic painting of water. Thaulow was a key figure in Nordic painting around 1880, and a personal friend of Monet. Erik Werenkiold was inspired by French nature and the naturalist movement. He painted peasants and landscapes, portraits of celebrities, and illustrations for Norwegian fairy tales.
