Originally serialized in Cosmopolitan Magazine before its October 1946 publication, Moonrise combines crime fiction with an unusually introspective examination of guilt, identity, and redemption. The novel later served as the basis for the acclaimed 1948 Republic Pictures film directed by Frank Borzage. Particularly noteworthy is the dramatic monochrome pictorial endpaper artwork depicting an armed man fleeing through a swamp while pursued by searchers.
