Among the topics discussed are: How Reactors Work; Reactor Design; Research, Teaching, and Materials Testing; Reactors (Research, Teaching and Materials); Production Reactors; Reactors for Electric Power Generation; Reactors to Supply Heat; Reactors for propulsion; Reactors for Space; Reactor Safety; and Reactors of Tomorrow. Appendix has Characteristics of U.S. Civilian Power Reactor Concepts and U. S. Central Station Nuclear Power Projects as of January 1965. The author was a chemical and nuclear engineer who worked in the atomic energy industry for its start. He was the co-author of the final report on the gaseous diffusion project at Oak Ridge that was part of the Manhattan Project. He also served on the Manhattan Project Editorial Advisory Board which coordinated the writing of the multi-volume National Nuclear Energy series. He edited the first edition of the Atomic Energy Commission's four-volume Reactor Handbooks and contributed to A Glossary of Terms in Nuclear Science and Technology. For the Atomic Energy Commission he wrote the 1958 Geneva Conference commemorative volume, Atoms for Peace -U.S.A. and a one-volume The Atomic Energy Deskbook.
