Gruppe des Periodensystems zeichnen sich durch besondere Eigenschaften aus. Es sind gute elektrische Leiter erster Ordnung, die zum Teil schon bei rela…tiv hohen Temperaturen supraleitend werden. Sie besitzen extrem hohe Schmelz punkte sowie außerordentliche Härte. Dies trifft besonders für Carbide und Ni tride zu, die auch als sogenannte Hartstoffe eine weitgehend technische Verwen dung finden [1]. Alle diese Verbindungen kristallisieren im NaCI-Gitter, so daß auch die Nichtmetallatome die Koordinationszahl 6 besitzen. Die Frage, wie die Kristallstruktur und die besonderen Eigenschaften dieser Verbindungsklassen zu deuten sind, wurde in neuerer Zeit von RUNDLE [2] und H. KREBS [3] be handelt. RUNDLE nimmt an, daß von jedem Nichtmetallatom sechs Atombin dungen zu den sechs benachbarten Metallatomen ausgehen, die aber den Charakter von Elektronenmangelbindungen besitzen, da die Nichtmetallatome nicht genug Elektronen für die Ausbildung von sechs normalen Atombindungen mitbringen. Nach RUNDLE beteiligen sich an den Bindungen die auf dem äußersten Valenz Elektronen-Niveau des Nichtmetallatoms befindlichen drei p-Orbitale sowie das s-Orbital. Geht man von der ionoiden Grenzstruktur, z.
