[Hinton was Chairman of the Central Electricity generating Board, and Holford was Professor of Town Planning at University College, London. The paper served as a benchmark for the early appointment of landscape architects in the design of power stations. The meeting was chaired by Lord Strang of the national Parks Commission. Holford was heavily involved with the development of post-World War II British town planning and was largely responsible for drafting the Town and Country Planning Act 1947.].

Text is otherwise clean and bright, no marks. Illustrated throughout with charts, diagrams and maps. Unclipped DJ with 35s. price shows heavy wear, rubbing to all edges, loss to heel of spine and upper corners, spine darkened, moderate general soiling, but intact and still doing its job. SOFTCOVER. Condizione: Fine. 1st Edition. Foolscap quarto size (4to) in stiff card covers. 20pp text plus frontispiece, 4pp plates and 3 leaf folding plan and elevation at rear. The plates show 7 views of models for Holford's proposals for the regeneration of Piccadilly Circus which are largely archetypal late 50's modernist in style, but with some very futurist features including a 'Vertical Feature' (sic) multi-storey tower, fountain cum ice rink, and a hotel with roof design reminiscent of Robert Matthew's Commonwealth Insitute. Perhaps fortunately none of his building proposals went any further than the drawing board, but his plans for the partial pedestrianisation and street layout closely resemble the actual redevelopment carried out in the early 1990's .
