This small collection of poetry is a fascinating artifact of World War II and the French Resistance against Nazi occupation. Released under the name Jean Valeur, this was a nom de plume of Jules Hollier-Larousse, a descendant of Pierre Larousse, the famous French encyclopedist and lexicographer. Having left Paris and moved to Louvigny for his health, he found himself living under Nazi occupation and joined the French Resistance. This collection of quatrains was written to inspire and console the members of the French Resistance in their battle against the Nazi forces. In the forward he writes that, "In their concise form, they will have no other ambition than to be the expression of the feelings animating the fighters of the clandestine war, of being a link between them, and sometimes also a comfort" ("Sous leur forme concise, ils n'eurent d'autre ambition que d'etre l'expression des sentiments animant les combattants de la lute clandestine, d'etre un lien entre eux et parfois aussi un reconfort.") The work is dedicated "To our Chief, to General de Gaulle, the one whose faith has overcome all disasters and prophesied all revenge" ("A notre Chief, Au General de Gaulle, a celui dont la foi a su domine tous les desastres et prophetiser toutes les revanches"). Printed by Imprimerie Caron & Cie in Caen, the situation of the Resistance in France is summarised in the description of the book's availability presented in the front. It is described as being for sale ".at the house of the Resistance, Rue Melingue, Caen, (Calvados), in free zones at all booksellers, and in occupied zones, its dissemination is assured through the efforts of groups of the Resistance" (".a la maison de la Resistance, rue Melingue, a Caen, (Calvados), en zone liberee, chez tous les libraires, en zone occupee, la dispersion est asuree par les soins des groupements de Resistance"). The book is given a price of 20 Francs, with proceeds going to the mutual aid bureau of the Union des Combattants de la Resistance. This fascinating work is in excellent condition. The covers and pages are slightly discoloured with age, and there is some very slight chipping to the edges of the wrappers. There is some slight foxing. The pages are uncut.

Vintage "Kennel Club Experimental Film Festival" one-color flyer, San Francisco, for Wednesday, September 13, 1989, featuring two films by Tom Palazzolo, as well as other contributions by local and regional filmmakers including Julie Murray, Mark Street, Thomas Hollier-Larousse, Steve Jensen, David Dickerson, and Marc Heffels. San Francisco's Kennel Club, at 628 Divisadero Street, opened in 1987 as a popular alternative music venue for bands such as Jane's Addiction, Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr., The Melvins, and Jesus Lizard, among others. The club also held San Francisco's first Noise Pop Festival in 1993, then a one day event promoted as a "5 bands for 5 dollars show," before the festival became a week-long event and one of San Francisco's most notorious music festivals. The club was sold after seven years in 1993, briefly becoming The Crash Palace, which closed in 1994. From 1997 to 2002 the location was the hip-hop, electronic, and reggae club The Justice League, before becoming San Francisco's world famous music venue The Independent in 2004. 8.5 x 14 inches. Very Good plus, with light creasing overall and several pinholes.
