The fact that markets increasingly escape the bounds of national economies and interact in international perspectives is apparent for example in the fields of research, development and manufacturing activities. These developments towards internationalization of economic and social policies and institutions lead in many cases to policies that adapt regulation to new international challenges or in other cases deregulate markets in a process of liberalization especially in the fields of labor and financial markets as well as training of workers, wage bargaining and education. Analyzing these processes and the impact of such policy changes on the political economies, societies and institutional frameworks has been the focus of research in both economics and political science - namely the Institutionalist branches. The applicability of the VoC framework to explain institutional change has since come under criticism for oversimplifying the institutional reality and falling short of capturing the complexities of real-world changes in national political economies with their dichotomous separation into LMEs and CMEs. Hall and Thelen (2009) have however proposed an extension to the VoC framework to analyze institutional change in a more meaningful way by outlining modes of change along the assumption of institutional stability in accordance with the VoC framework.…

While migration and seeking asylum as a refugee are two different cases, this development has certainly made it clear to many a people that while the globalization and liberalization of trade have reached an all-time high, the globalization of the movement of people might go along a similar course. Although the desire to regulate migration and the flow of people seems to be almost unanimously accepted as a prerogative of nations, this desire could be faced with a new modus operando where it becomes almost impossible to control - especially from the point of view of democracies adhering to liberal principles. The question this essay tries to answer is 'Does irregular migration pose a challenge to the nation-state '. To answer this question this text will first give a brief overview of the definitions, causes and mechanisms of (im-)migration to better understand the concept of irregular immigration that is at the heart of this analysis. It will then, focusing mainly on a EU perspective, present the concept of irregular immigration and the nation state to then lay out the challenges irregular migration may pose to the nation state. Finally, using a short qualitative analysis it will then be shown which challenges are credible to arise from irregular immigration.…

Through incorporation of iterative benchmarking processes to assess progress in achieving the objectives set forth by the EU on the national level, mutual learning among member states and mobilization of actors across many levels - EU, national and sub-national levels - the OMC represented a novel approach to governance in the EU. Because the environment in which the OMC is applied, the multiple actors it involves across multiple levels, as well as the challenge of correctly placing it among other soft-law measures and the existing tool set of the EU institutions the literature in OMC research is equally complex. Contributions to OMC research emanate from many researchers across different fields of science, such as economists, legal scholars, sociologists and political scientists that have brought forth analyses looking at the topic from various angles. These include the OMC as a New Mode of Governance, a form of Policy Learning and Europeanisation and as a motor of European Integration.Taking this complexity into account and given the limited ability of this specific type of essay it seems necessary to concentrate on a few specific aspects. This work will thus limit its time frame - from the implementation of the Lisbon Strategy in 2000 until the overhaul it received with the introduction of 'Europe 2020' in 2010 at most - and discuss the case of the United Kingdom (UK) with regard to the possible impact the OMC has had on social policy and the way in which different levels of government and non-government actors have been involved. Neuware -Essay aus dem Jahr 2014 im Fachbereich Politik - Internationale Politik - Allgemeines und Theorien, Note: 1,0, Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Seit Zustandekommen der Montanunion im Jahr 1952 findet in Europa ein Prozess des Zusammenwachsens statt, der sich durch die gewonnene Einsicht charakterisiert, zwischenstaatliche Beziehungen europäischer Staaten durch Kompromisse, Verhandlungen und auch Aufgabe nationalstaatlicher Souveränität zu gestalten. So fanden vor allem mit der Einheitlichen Europäischen Akte, den Verträgen von Maastricht, Amsterdam und Nizza und zuletzt mit dem Vertrag von Lissabon weitreichende Schritte statt, die mit dem Ziel der Erhöhung der Handlungsfähigkeit der Europäischen Union (EU) eine weitere Vertiefung der Europäischen Integration nach sich zogen. In der Wissenschaft wird diese Europäische Integration als ein Prozess sui generis angesehen und bedarf damit auch ihrer eigenen theoretischen Grundlage.Einen wichtigen Beitrag zu der Erklärung leistet hierbei Andrew Moravcsiks einflussreiches Werk ¿The Choice for Europe¿. Moravcsik sieht mit seinem umfassenden Werk zur Integrationstheorie die Staaten Europas nicht als jenen ursprünglich gemeinten Verbund von Staaten, die gemeinsam das Schiff Europa zu einem gemeinsamen Ziel lenken, sondern beschreibt mit dem Liberalen Intergouvernementalismus (LI) eher einen losen Verbund von Staaten, deren Verwirklichung ihrer eigenen Interessen letztendlich europäische Integration zur Folge hat. Unter Verwendung von Moravcsiks LI soll hier nun der Prozess der Integration am Beispiel der Einheitlichen Europäischen Akte (EEA), die den Anfang einer starken Integrationsbewegung darstellt, erläutert und aufgezeigt werden, welche Faktoren zu diesem Integrationsschritt führen und dafür nötig sind.
