Spine ends rubbed; rear hinge cracked; upper outer corners of two leaves chipped, not affecting text. Small ownership stamp on front and rear pastedowns, and faintly on versos of each map. A good copy. A biography of Thomas (1816-1870) who served in both the Mexican War and the Civil War. He earned the nickname "Rock of Chickamauga" as a result of his skill in protecting the Union Army at the battle of Chickamauga in 1863.
