Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. 1st Edition. A candid, fast-paced autobiography by Paul Hornung, Notre Dame All-American and the Green Bay Packers' 'Golden Boy' - recounting his rise to the Heisman Trophy, NFL scoring titles, the glamour of the 1950s-60s pro game, and the 1963 suspension that changed his career. Told in Hornung's direct voice and shaped by Al Silverman, the book pairs anecdote and play-by-play recollection with evocative black-and-white action photography and captioned plates that illustrate Hornung's life and playing days. The narrative covers Notre Dame, his years with Vince Lombardi's Packers, his on-field versatility (quarterback, kicker, runner), and the off-field life that made him one of the era's most colorful figures. Book overall Very Good: cloth boards clean and square, binding tight and sound; light bumping to the spine ends and tips and a small abrasion along the rear spine edge. Internally clean except for small water-stain spots confined to pp. 38-39 (visible but not intrusive to text), and light age-tone to the pastedowns/endsheets. Jacket graded Good+: unclipped with price indication (printed on the front flap as F.A.T.S.M. $4.95), moderately soiled and edge-worn with small chips at the spine ends, a short closed tear at the front panel and light creasing; jacket photo credited to Martin Blumenthal / Sport Magazine. No former owner inscriptions or library marks noted. Edition/printing: stated First Edition on the copyright page; this is a first-printing trade edition. Paul Vernon Hornung (b. Dec. 23, 1935 - d. Nov. 13, 2020) was the 1956 Heisman Trophy winner at Notre Dame and a key player for the Green Bay Packers (1957-1966), earning NFL scoring titles and a reputation as a multi-talented 'all-around' player under Vince Lombardi. His 1963 suspension for betting on NFL games was widely reported and is treated candidly here.
