Their father and mother had divorced, leaving his mother to take a welder job during World War II when his father left them. Determined to escape the poor lifestyle and make something of himself, David worked hard in school and sports to gain scholarships and eventually get his master's and doctorate degrees. He eventually enlisted in the Air Force and rose to the ranks of colonel, even flying 475 combat missions during Vietnam. David, his wife Bobbi, and their children began to lay some permanent roots while David was a program manager for all USAF professional development short courses in the Pentagon, worked with the White House, and managed several programs for the office of the Secretary of Defense. He also was instrumental in programs for Kennedy Space Center, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, and University of Central Florida in science and aviation. But what is most memorable in David's newly published autobiography is the role God played in his life from even before he accepted Jesus into his life. The diversity of his jobs and path he has charted he has only God to thank. After much prayer with his second wife Beverly (his first wife passed in 2014), David made the decision to write about his life, in hopes that his story gives readers a purpose for their lives and draws them closer to the God who made it all possible. What one boy from a small town could dream of accomplishing over the course of his life can be the same dream another can achieve as well, for the God who can make the impossible happen is behind each and every dream.

His brother, Christian, joined him a decade later. By 1875 their firm, renamed Herter Brothers, was supplying the White House with furnishings, as it had been doing for some of America's wealthiest families since 1858. During this opulent period, Herter Brothers could claim to be the leading cabinetmaking and decorating firm in the country. The best of the Herter Brothers' furniture and interiors are displayed in 133 color and 167 black-and-white illustrations, including many close-up details as well as comparative work by rival fine cabinetmakers of the time in New York and Europe. Herter Brothers tells the story of the company from its earliest manifestations, when Gustave worked with other partners and alone, through his partnership with his brother, to Christian's years as head of the firm and the end of his tenure ; Katherine S. Howe is the director of the Rienzi house museum for European decorative arts in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.; Peter C. Marzio. Peter was the director of the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, a post he held for almost three decades; born into a working-class immigrant family, becoming the first in his family to graduate from High School. At Juniata College he became inspired by the art and museum world, deciding to make this his career. He went on to earn a doctorate in art and American history from the University of Chicago. He served as curator of prints and drawings at the Smithsonian and then as director and chief executive officer of the Corcoran Gallery of Art, before becoming the director in Houston. ; Philippe de Montebello is a French and American museum director. He served from 1977 to 2008 as the director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. On his retirement, he was both the longest-serving director in the institution's history and the third longest-serving director of any major art museum in the world; He immigrated to the United States of America in the 1950s, and became a naturalized citizen of the US in 1955. He was educated in New York City at the Lycée Français de New York, graduated from Harvard University with a degree in art history, and earned an MA from New York University, after which he embarked on a career in Fine Arts. He became the Director of the Metropolitan Museum in 1977 and has become widely known as the public face of the museum.; Ned Rifkin joined the staff of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in December 1986 as the first chief curator for exhibitions. ; Contents: A European context, 1840-80 : England / Simon Jervis.
