First Edition. THE FAN-VET, The Fantasy Veterans Association, Volume 2, #1, April, 1952, first edition, one leaf printed on both verso and recto, a vg+ copy. This issue, edited by Ray Van Houten, is basically a Convention Bulletin hyping a convention in Manhattan for April 7, 1952, which will have as its guests: Isaac Asimov, Thomas S. Gardner, Sam Moskowitz and John Victor Peterson. Others who have been invited but have yet to confirm their appearance are Sam Merwin, Jr., F. Orlin Tremaine, Scott Meredith and Hugo Gernsback. To be auctioned are cover paintings by Howard V. Brown, Lawrence, Swiatek & Krupa, R. G. Jones, Malcolm Smith, Summer and Valigursky and Ames. Additionally, a drawing will be held wherein a large never published full color painting by Edd Cartier; a large Steve Savage unused interior illustration for Rohmer's BROOD OF THE WITCH QUEEN and various interior black & white illustrations by Finlay, Cartier, Lawrence, Emsh and others will be given away. There is also rumor of a Frank R. Paul cover from the Gernsback era which also might be auctioned. There is also mention of films to be shown and dealers room. Accompanied by a flyer / broadside printed on rectos only for the April, 1952 convention which lists confirmed guests as Samuel Mines, Jerry Bixby, Paul W. Fairman, Mrs. H. L. Of particular interest are the statistics from the world's first survey of the science fiction industry listed in the article by Moskowitz. Stapled sheets. First Edition. The run includes five issues from 1953, ten from 1954, six from 1955, six from 1956 and twenty-one from 1957 (with one duplicate). Issues 211, 212 and 279 have tears to the edges that partially affect text. Some are soiled and the paper is age-toned but, in all, presentable copies of one of the longest running science fiction fanzines, which won a Hugo Award for best fanzine in two of the years here represented, 1955 and 1957.
