The Young Ladies' Club of Baddeck was founded by Mabel Gardiner Hubbard Bell and her husband in 1891 (renamed The Bell Club in his honour after his death). Beinn Bhreagh was the Bell estate near Baddeck, Cape Breton. "Using the model of women's clubs that Mabel had attended in Washington, the Baddeck club provided opportunities for its members to study and discuss issues of the day. The meetings ended sociably with good conversation and the more tangible delights of cake and tea. Mabel was its honorary president and cherished the companionship and friendships she formed, calling the club meetings some of her 'dearest memories'." [Judith Tulloch: The Bell Family in Baddeck, 2006: Formac; p. 34]. 24 pages. Side stapled textblock detached as one from covers, with staples rusted but holding fine.
