The locals were of the opinion that the development projects undertaken in their locality had not been implemented through their participation at initial stage in decision making, planning and implementation. The local members agreed that the project was run by people from other areas. Findings also revealed that there were social factors that affected community participation i.e. education level at a high extent. Ziel dieser Studie war es, die Determinanten der Gemeindebeteiligung bei der Umsetzung von Entwicklungsprojekten am Beispiel des Garissa-Kanalisationsprojekts zu untersuchen. Vier Forschungsfragen wurden formuliert, um die Studie zu leiten. Für die Studie wurde ein deskriptives Forschungsdesign verwendet. Die Stichprobe umfasste 138 Befragte. Die Daten wurden mittels Fragebogen und Interviewleitfaden erhoben. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass die Einheimischen nicht über das Projekt informiert waren. Die Einheimischen waren der Meinung, dass die Entwicklungsprojekte, die in ihrem Ort durchgeführt wurden, nicht durch ihre Beteiligung in der Anfangsphase an der Entscheidungsfindung, Planung und Durchführung umgesetzt worden waren. Die lokalen Mitglieder stimmten zu, dass das Projekt von Leuten aus anderen Gebieten geleitet wurde. El propósito de este estudio era investigar los factores determinantes de la participación de la comunidad en la ejecución de proyectos de desarrollo, un caso del proyecto de alcantarillado de Garissa. Se formularon cuatro preguntas de investigación para orientar el estudio. El estudio empleó un diseño de investigación de encuesta descriptiva. La muestra estaba formada por 138 encuestados. Los datos se recogieron mediante un cuestionario y una guía de entrevista. Los resultados revelaron que la población local desconocía el proyecto. Opinaban que los proyectos de desarrollo emprendidos en su localidad no se habían ejecutado con su participación en la fase inicial de toma de decisiones, planificación y ejecución. Los miembros locales estaban de acuerdo en que el proyecto estaba dirigido por personas de otras zonas. Los resultados también revelaron que había factores sociales que afectaban a la participación de la comunidad, como el nivel educativo. Vier Forschungsfragen wurden formuliert, um die Studie zu leiten. Für die Studie wurde ein deskriptives Forschungsdesign verwendet. Die Stichprobe umfasste 138 Befragte. Die Daten wurden mittels Fragebogen und Interviewleitfaden erhoben. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass die Einheimischen nicht über das Projekt informiert waren. Die Einheimischen waren der Meinung, dass die Entwicklungsprojekte, die in ihrem Ort durchgeführt wurden, nicht durch ihre Beteiligung in der Anfangsphase an der Entscheidungsfindung, Planung und Durchführung umgesetzt worden waren. Die lokalen Mitglieder stimmten zu, dass das Projekt von Leuten aus anderen Gebieten geleitet wurde.
