"Power Without Glory" premiered in London in 1947, then opened on Broadway the following year with the original London cast. This copy belonged to Hilary Liddell, who played Anna in both productions, and has her name and address on the front cover as well as numerous line edits and stage notes for Anna throughout the script. She also drew a couple renderings of the set and a sketch of a man's face. This seems to be a working copy as Acts I and II are complete, Act III contains pp. 1-11, then an additional pp. 7-14 which ends in a final curtain, and has another pp. 15-20 laid in the back. Because the script has so many of Liddell's notations, it seems likely it was a working script and these were adaptations and rewrites made during rehearsals. Also included is the script of a courtroom scene from a seemingly unpublished and uncredited play titled "Atharva Veda" where a woman who goes by "Veda" is being sued for fraud after claiming to treat someone by hypnosis. Veda's lines are circled and certain parts of the script have been exed out. Perhaps it was used for an audition or workshop. It is labeled MC#1325 but we find no listings of that title or those character names in any published play. 9" x 12" blue-gray folder, title and playwright label and "Christopher Mann Ltd" label affixed to front cover, string bound, pages faded with some creasing and minor tears, pencil annotations on cover and throughout script, additional script pages laid in, very good. With stapled packed of blue 8.5" x 11" paper, pp. 2-11, some staining and edgewear, very good.
