Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. An illustrated work of lyric poetry and prose on drinking green tea as a meditation. An Homage to Green Teais an illustrated collection of poetry and prose on the beneficence of green tea, and ways to experience that beneficence. It collects two works of classical Korean literature into a single volume.'A Poem for Green Tea' is a long poem that includes short-short stories, legends, anecdotes, other related poems, excerpts from reference books about green tea, religious and spiritual (Buddhist/Taoist) writing, and Ch'oi's notes to the poem. Taken as a whole, the poem seeks to authenticate the value of Korean green tea relative to Chinese green tea in a pleasing, aesthetic manner. 'A Poem for Green Tea' ends with an epilogue poem in praise of Ch'oi's unparalleled green tea.'The Divine Life of Tea' is a collection of instructions on how to arrive at the best cup of green tea. It begins with superb locations for the cultivation of green tea, when to pick the leaves, how to prepare and store leaves, ideal types of water, grades of boiling water, the utensils to use in preparation of a cup of green tea, and the type of company one should keep a list by no means comprehensive. 'The Divine Life of Tea' ends with an epilogue by Ch'oi, describing his purpose and efforts in writing the manuscript. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. The complete collection of poems by Nansrhn, a 16th century sequestered noblewoman and one of Korea's first feminists in literature, considered by many Korean scholars to be Korea's greatest poet.Nansrhn's writes frequently in the Korean han style of "deep sighs," a thematically-styled poetry reminiscent of the Chinese "women poets of anguish," practiced by writers such as Li, Ch'ing-chao (1084-1151). In this style, hardships that cannot be overcome but only endured are named and lamented: the death of children, abandonment by husbands, and destruction of households from war are a few examples. She did not lose the means to express her feelings, however, and her poetry remains as testament to the process of her responses to her life. The feminism of Nansrhn begins with her education and the act of writing poetry. If a Korean noblewoman of this period wrote about progressive themes that challenged social norms, she had to express the ideas by using personas and troping traditional formal structures. Poetry written in this manner could then be defended by the noblewoman as simply practicing variations on poetic tradition, despite the subtextual commentary on abandonment, experiences or opinions on sequestering, larger questions about socialized gender roles and identity, or what it means to be an artist.
