An 1804 coincidental meeting with Dr. John Coats Cox whom Prince Jallon had met in Africa in 1786 set off a chain of events which resulted in release of the prince and his wife (but not their children) from slavery in 1828 by order of President John Quincy Adams and Secretary of State Henry Clay.
