Collection of thrilling tales about brave men & women of the past who lived 500 BC-1920 AD, lavishly illustrated throughout with a frontispiece & 5 additional full-page, full-color plates by Florence Choate & Elizabeth Curtis, themselves pioneering female artists in the early 20th century. With rust-colored cloth-covered boards & a decorative paper pastedown to front cover (which shows some chipping to most edges), this hardcover book is in Good condition: generally very clean, with random smudges & light soil spots; some small crayon drawings in lower margin to last page. All the plates are stunning: clean & colorful, white margins show no tanning or foxing. The binding is strong & square, hinges secure. Pages show moderate tanning around edges, commensurate with age.
